So how did it all begin

The Evans brothers first began their business in 1912 in the premises at the bottom of Broad Street. They quickly gained a reputation for excellent service coupled with premium produce.

In 1978 Nigel joined them as an apprentice butcher and was quickly followed by Frank. The two were taught those traditional skills of butchery alongside the ability to select meat of superior quality and how to serve it to the customer.

Eventually in 1999 Nigel decided to take on the business and became the current proprietor, and , although both Charlie and Sid Evans have both gone, the fact that the shop continues to carry their name, proves the desire of all the team to continue to provide the service & quality which has so long been valued at Evans.

Today's world

We live in a totally different world from the one in which Sid & Charlie entered so many years ago, but we believe that whatever man decides to do, we are what we eat!

We continue to choose our products using three marks, The quality, welfare of the animal, and price.

We have found that the Beef & Lamb from the Orkney Isles stands out from the rest in several ways. Firstly the flavour and tenderness is unbeatable, due ,to the way in which the animals are reared, on the thick rich grass of the Orkney Isles. Also they kill the animals on the island and so they are not stressed at the time of slaughter, plus we are able to trace our meat right to its source.

We purchase free range chickens, knowing that they have not been fed additives to be passed on to us!
The Kitchen produces ready meals, prepared with "real" meat! pies, pastries and sweets which are seen to be believed and of course,
There is much more, but this is just to whet your appetite to come and visit us, and experience what true quality is all about

What is to come

So here's to the future! Time does not stand still, we are facing an ever increasingly fast world, so, it is time to keep up!

We are aware that so many people do not have time to cook or shop in the way they would like and so we have already begun a range of ready prepared meals which we will continue to work on.

We have recently engaged an I.T. expert to create this website for us. Keep coming back as when it is finished it will mean that even when the shop is closed you can browse our site and E-mail your order for you to collect or us to deliver, taking the stress out of those times when you're not quite sure how to get it all done!

And if you just can't think what to cook, why not ask our advice, we will be regularly producing menus to help you provide your family with healthy , interesting meals each day, and we can cater for those who struggle with allergies too! All of this will soon be available from this website.
